With the MLB season not starting due to the coronavirus, the MLB and the video game “MLB The Show” have partnered to form a players league. One player from each team plays with their team against other MLB players and their team in a series of three-inning games.
Representing the New York Yankees is none other than clubhouse character, Tommy Kahnle.
Kahnle showed his lack of experience early on. He wound up losing his first five games, including a loss to Blake Snell of the Rays, an MLB The Show fanatic.
Then, Kahnle went off on a tear. He’s won his last seven games, including wins over Juan Soto of the Nationals and Jeff McNeil of the Mets.
With six games remaining, Kahnle has some work to do if he would like a playoff spot. In the league, the top eight teams make it to the playoffs. The first two rounds are in a best-of-three format, and the finals are a best-of-five format.
He doesn’t play today but will play on Monday and Tuesday. Standing in his way on Monday are Jon Duplantier (ARI), Josh Hader (MIL), and Fernando Tatis Jr. (SD). Tuesday, Kahnle faces David Dahl (COL), Hunter Pence (SF), and Eduardo Rodriguez (BOS).
