New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that the team has traded goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to the Colorado Avalanche for a third-round and fifth-round selection in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, as well as a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
Alexandar Georgiev has been traded by the New York Rangers to the Colorado Avalanche for three draft picks in a deal announced on Thursday afternoon by GM Chris Drury.
The Rangers acquired a third-round and fifth-round selection in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, as well as a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft
Georgiev, 26, played in 33 games for the Rangers in 2021-22, posting a 15-10-2 record, 2.92 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage. In 129 appearances with the Blueshirts over five seasons, he went 58-48-11 with a 2.94 GAA and .908 save percentage.
He is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights as the Edmonton Oilers are preparing themselves not to have Darcy Kemper next season who is an unrestricted free agent who will be testing out the free-agent market when it begins on July 13.
A backup goaltender is now high on the team’s list of positions to fill that also includes an NHL-caliber center.

The Blueshirts now own six draft picks in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, which begins tonight, and six in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

Their first-round pick for this year was traded to the Winnipeg Jets in the Andrew Copp deal. It was originally a second-round pick going to the Jets, but when the Rangers advanced to the ECF the pick was updated to a first-round pick in this year’s draft.
