New York Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin has been named the NHL’s Third Star of the Week.

Igor Shesterkin has been one of the great stories on the New York Rangers team this season. This past week the NHL has acknowledged his stellar play as he was named the Third Star of the Week.

Shesterkin was 3-0 with a 1.67 GAA and .955 save percentage while getting the wins against the St. Louis Blues, New Jersey Devils, and the Winnipeg Jets.

He is 28-6-3 on the season and leads the NHL in goals-against average with 1.93 and in save percentage with a .942.

The netminder is 15-2-1 in his past 18 starts and has earned a point in nine of his last 10 games (8-1-1). With his 44 saves in the win over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday, he improved his record to 10-0-0 in his career when making 40-plus saves in a game. He became the NHL’s second goaltender since 1955-56 to win each of his first 10 or more games when making 40+ saves, joining Tuukka Rusk (11-0-0).

With 27 games remaining in the season for the Rangers he will surely surpass the 30 win plateau for the first time in his career.

Shesterkin’s successful season so far has the Blueshirts standing in third place in the Metropolitan division behind the Second place Pittsburgh Penguins and division leader Carolina Hurricanes.
