The New York Rangers will have their training facility open on Tuesday to begin players’ voluntary workouts. This will be the first time players from the Blueshirts have skated together since the NHL paused their season on Mar. 12.

New York Post’s Mollie Walker reported that Brendan Smith, Brendan Lemieux, Chris Kreider, Marc Staal, Adam Fox, and Phillip Di Giuseppe are expected to be the group participating in on and off-ice workouts today at MSG Training Center.

The start of Phase 2 is the next step in the league’s Return to Play guidelines. Players can participate in workouts, but coaches and trainers are not allowed on the ice during this phase.  The same groups of six will continue to skate together throughout the phase to help the medical staff monitor any COVID symptoms that might develop.

For the time being the team will not have any of the three goaltenders on their roster at their facility. Henrik Lundqvist has been practicing in Sweden with his brother’s team Frolunda HC. Alexandar Georgiev was last seen skating with Kaapo Kakko in Finland and Igor Shesterkin will remain in Florida as was reported by Larry Brooks of the New York Post.

The NHL is expected to begin Phase 3-Training Camp- no earlier than July 10. Players traveling from overseas will have to quarantine 14 days after they returned to their home cities.

Rangers Make A Statement

The New York Rangers released a statement earlier on Tuesday calling for a positive change. The New York Knicks released the same statement which looked to be more of an MSG corporation statement rather than a team comment.
