The 2024 MLB All-Star game is less than 48 hours away and will not feature a player on the New York Mets that had a great case to represent the National League in left field this year.

Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo has put together a noteworthy season that failed to get recognized this summer. The full rosters for the National and American Leagues were unveiled on Saturday, July 13 during the 2024 BuildSubmarines.com MLB All-Star Selection Show, as MLB.com published.

The National League starters in the outfield are Christian Yelich (Milwaukee Brewers), Jurickson Profar, and Fernando Tatis Jr. (San Diego Padres). Nimmo was not named a reserve either, losing out to Teoscar Hernández (Los Angeles Dodgers), Jackson Merrill (Padres), Heliot Ramos (San Francisco Giants), and Bryan Reynolds (Pittsburgh Pirates).

Among all NL outfielders, Nimmo currently ranks No. 5 in OPS (.815), No. 4 in home runs (16), No. 1 in RBIs (63), No. 2 in runs (59), and No. 6 in doubles (18). He also sports a pristine .992 fielding percentage in left field with only one lone error committed on the campaign.

Further, the Mets are 25-12 since May 29, when they hit rock-bottom at 22-33 overall, thanks in large part to Nimmo’s stellar play. New York (49-46) has climbed back into Wild Card positioning after their season seemed all but lost to begin the month of June. They have a slight edge over the Arizona Diamondbacks (49-48) and Padres (50-49) for the sixth and final slot because of the stellar play of their left fielder across the board.

Most recently, the 31-year-old was moved to second in the Mets’ batting order and adjusted like an All-Star would, helping the team beat the Washington Nationals in their season series and wage a five-game winning streak that was just snapped in their 8-5 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

Nimmo would have been a commendable selection to represent the Mets in this year’s festivities. The Mets will only get to support first baseman Pete Alonso, their only representative in the game, when it commences on Tuesday, July 16 at 8 PM ET on Fox.
