The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, 4-2. From that point forward, it has been all losses, as the offense has scored just three runs in three games. Situational hitting has been a problem, particularly with men in scoring position.
Not that there’s a way to predict how a team will hit with runners in scoring position or do something specific to remedy the situation, but it’s still worth pointing out that the Mets have been a disaster with runners in scoring position during their three-game losing streak.
Per SNY, the Mets have hit .134 (13-for-97) and gone 0-for-18 with runners in scoring position in their last three. Even in Monday’s victory vs. the Cardinals, they were just 1-for-14 with men on second or third base. Maybe the hitters are pressing, or perhaps it’s just a bad streak. In any case, the lack of offense is starting to cost them games.
Worrisome Stats
Before Saturday’s games, the Mets were 20th in MLB in wRC+, with an 88 mark. Their .205 batting average ranked them 25th. It’s a frustrating development, because everyone knows there’s talent to be much, much better offensively.

Marcus Semien was mired on a 0-for-20 before finally notching a single during the seventh inningĀ of Thursday’s loss.
Rookie Carson Benge has a 64 wRC+ and is striking out a third of the time. Jorge Polanco and Brett Baty have been below-average, and Bo Bichette’s wRC+ is in the negatives (-9).
Four Names Are Doing Their Best To Carry The Offense
Right now, four names are doing their best to carry the Mets’ offense: Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, Francisco Alvarez, and Luis Robert Jr. All of them have been consistently good, but they are going to need their teammates to pick up their game if New York wants to return to their winning ways.

It’s still very early in the season, but the Mets are already last in the NL East and they won’t want to stay there much longer.
