The Mets offense has been inconsistent throughout the last couple of weeks, but Wilson Ramos has been the one person they can count on. Thanks to a double on Sunday, he extended his hitting streak to 25-games. He is five games away from tying Moises Alou’s club record of 30-straight games with a hit.
With a hit in a 25th consecutive game, Wilson Ramos just passed Mike Piazza and Hubie Brooks for the third-longest hitting streak in Mets history:
1. Moises Alou, 30
2. David Wright, 26
3. Wilson Ramos, 25— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) September 2, 2019
Heading into August he was only hitting .255 and was having one of the worst offensive years of his career. He went on to hit .434 in August to get his average up to .299 heading into September. He also drove in 20 runs and had a 1.037 OPS during his red hot August.
Can He Catch Up To Santiago?
Benito Santiago holds the longest hitting streak by a catcher at 34 straight games. The streak is definitely in reach and extending his streak past 34 will be one of the more impressive hitting streaks of all time. Ramos completely lacks any speed so all of his hits have to be legitimate. It is very rare to see him earn an infield single.

To put Joe DiMaggio’s streak in perspective, Ramos could get a hit in every game for the rest of the season and still be short of 56 straight games. Ramos will get a day off Monday and barring a pinch hitting assignment he will have a chance to extend the streak to 26 on Tuesday against the Nationals.
