Good morning, New York Mets’ fans! The team is still generating plenty of news and rumors. There are no suggestions that General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen is done trying to improve the roster.

Here are the Mets’ news and rumors of the day:

Rising Apple: In this article, Tim Boyle details a future competition in New York Mets. Three players are set to compete for the 26th and last bench spot. Those players are infielder Luis Guillorme, utilityman Sam Haggerty, and infielder Max Moroff.

Moroff has experience in the Major Leagues and can play second, third, and shortstop, while Haggerty is speedy and versatile. Guillorme’s high averages in the Minor Leagues haven’t translated to the bigs yet, but he can play a very good shortstop.

Elite Sports NY: This article quotes Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated as saying that newly signed hurler Rick Porcello had several offers on the table before committing his 2020 season to the New York Mets.

The report states that the lifelong Mets fan had turned down several offers, including a one-year, $12 million one from the Toronto Blue Jays and a couple of multi-year pacts.

NJ.com: According to the folks at NJ.com, the Mets need to pony up and pay for the services of free-agent reliever Dellin Betances. He has a long track record of dominance and he is expected to be ready for the start of the season after injuring his Achilles tendon.

Joe Giglio outlines his excellent production when healthy, the trust and leadership elements, and the upside of the bullpen with his presence as the primary reasons why the Mets should take a chance. He also says that the price should be down and the team needs to pounce.

Not done yet!

Unbiased Sports Network: Ken Davidoff of the NY Post recently suggested that the New York Mets aren’t done making moves. He has already added outfielder Jake Marisnick and hurlers Michael Wacha and Rick Porcello. However, as the Starling Marte, Carlos Correa, and Josh Hader sagas have shown us, they might still be interested in upgrading the roster.
