While the regular season gets set to be put on hold for the All-Star break, many of the Midsummer Classic’s activities have already begun, including the All-Star Futures Game.
On Saturday, the National League prospects defeated the American League prospects 6-1, and a top Met prospect shined during the victory.
Brandon Sproat shines in the All-Star Futures game
New York Mets’ no. 6 prospect, according to MLB.com, Brandon Sproat, came in during the third inning and channeled his inner Jacob DeGrom, showcasing his talent to the world on an all-star stage by throwing eight out of 12 pitches for strikes while hitting 99 MPH in a hitless and scoreless inning.
Sproat began by getting Cole Young to pop out before getting Samuel Basallo to ground into a 6-4-3 double play after Sebastian Walcott reached on an error.
“I felt like everything was pretty good for the most part. I got one inning, just kinda go out there and see what happens,” Sproat said. “It was a lot of fun. The nerves kicked up there, running in from the bullpen, legs kinda felt like Jell-O. But it was a really, really cool experience.”
The 23-year-old has split time pitching between High-A Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton, pitching 73.2 innings across 14 appearances, 13 of which were starts, to a 1.71 ERA and 0.950 WHIP while striking out 85.

Could Sproat make the jump to the major leagues this season?
After Sproat’s impressive performance and the way the Florida native has pitched this season, the question will be whether he could make his major league debut for the Mets this season.
However, that appears incredibly unlikely. Sproat has just 14 professional appearances under his belt, and with how crowded the Mets’ rotation is, it would be hard to fathom the 23-year-old finding his way onto a big league rubber in 2024.
Instead, it’s much more realistic that Sproat could find his way to Triple-A Syracuse by the end of the campaign.
