Although the New York Mets’ play throughout the 2024 campaign has been inconsistent at times, one thing has remained consistent: injuries just keep happening.
Recent victims of the injury bug have been relief pitcher Reed Garrett, who is on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation, and Drew Smith, who officially had season-ending elbow surgery.
Now, a promising young starter is joining the list of injuries as he is heading to the 15-day injured list.
Christian Scott is heading to the 15-day injured list
According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the Mets have placed starting pitcher Christian Scott on the 15-day injured list with a right UCL sprain. DiComo added that Scott underwent an MRI today, and the organization is awaiting multiple doctors to review the results to confirm it is a sprain and not a tear.
The 25-year-old has made nine starts in the big leagues this season, pitching 47.1 innings to a 4.56 ERA with a 1.204 WHIP while striking out 39. Scott has also made nine starts for Triple-A Syracuse, pitching 42.1 innings to a 2.76 ERA with a 0.969 WHIP and 55 punch-outs.

Who is taking Scott’s spot on the Mets’ roster?
Rather than opting to call up another starting pitcher to fill Scott’s spot on the roster, the Mets have called up left-handed relief pitcher Alex Young.
Young appeared in three games for the Cincinnati Reds this season, pitching two innings while giving up four hits, no runs, and striking out a pair, but has been primarily pitching at the Triple-A level.
The 30-year-old made 23 appearances for Triple-A Louisville, pitching 22.2 innings to a stellar 1.19 ERA with a 0.838 WHIP and 22 strikeouts. Young didn’t get the same results in his two appearances for Triple-A Sacramento, pitching two innings across two appearances to a 13.50 ERA with a 3.000 WHIP and one punch out.
The Ohio native made just one appearance for Triple-A Syracuse before his call-up, going just 0.2 of an inning while allowing a hit and a walk.
Young may be on a short leash with Scott’s place in the rotation needing to be filled, but the 30-year-old should at least get a chance to prove himself in an appearance before then.
