New York Mets ace Kodai Senga took to the mound to run through a light pitching session on Saturday. The RotoWire staff via CBS Sports shared an update from Pat Ragazzo of SI.com regarding Senga’s activity this weekend:
“Senga (shoulder/triceps) took part in light-to-moderate throwing on the field Saturday, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports,” the network relayed.
Mets are still patiently waiting for Kodai Senga to return to full strength
The Japanese star has not taken the field for the Mets in 2024 after suffering a posterior shoulder capsule strain earlier this spring. The 31-year-old has been stringent on wanting to hit all of his checkpoints in rehab without any setbacks or doubt in the strength of his arm.

So much so, that Senga spoke openly about working on his mechanics to improve his throws after facing 32 live batters in late May. The 2023 All-Star relies on his stuff to dominate on the mound. His 95.7 mph average fastball velocity from a year ago placed him in the 79th percentile at his position and allowed him to post a 29.1 percent strikeout percentage, which catapulted him to the 87th percentile in the previous campaign.
Senga is still a ways away from returning to the big league club. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza has no form timetable for his comeback, though the 2023 National League Rookie of the Year runner-up is itching to get back out on the field with his teammates.
The Mets miss his 2.98 ERA and 202 strikeouts from last season in their lineup. The hope is that he’ll bring that production back to the team later on in the summer.
