Freddy Peralta went 4 innings against the Houston Astros on March 14 for the Mets, allowing 1 earned run on 1 hit with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk on 56 pitches.

The trouble came immediately. Taylor Trammell led off the first with a walk, stole second, and scored on a Yordan Alvarez ground ball single to right. That was the only run Peralta would allow. Carlos Correa grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning, and Peralta did not look back.

The 2nd was clean. Cavan Biggio went down swinging, Jake Meyers and CJ Alexander both flew out to center. 9 pitches, 3 outs. The 3rd looked similar — Carlos Pérez flew out to center, Jax Biggers got punched out on a foul tip, Taylor Trammell went down swinging. Peralta had 4 strikeouts through 3 innings and had not allowed another baserunner.

The 4th inning was his last. Isaac Paredes led it off and struck out swinging for Peralta’s 5th punchout of the day. Yordan Alvarez flew out to right. Correa lined out sharply to left to end the outing. Luis García took over from there.

Peralta had a 70% strike percentage on 56 pitches. For a pitcher whose health and command have been the central questions entering 2026, throwing strikes at that rate against a lineup with Correa, Alvarez, and Paredes is exactly the kind of evidence the New York Mets needed to see.

Four innings, 56 pitches, 1 run allowed in the first before the outing ever found its rhythm — that is a pitcher in control of his stuff and his count.
