After a four-game split with the Miami Marlins, the New York Mets road trip continued as the blue and orange took on the New York Yankees in a two-game set.

The Yankees took an early 1-0 lead courtesy of a solo shot by Gleyber Torres in the bottom of the second before Francisco Lindor got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth to tie the game at one.

Jeff McNeil then continued his recent power surge, slugging a two-run home run that ultimately was the difference as the Mets took game one 3-2.

The Mets bats exploded in game two, hitting three home runs off the reigning American League CY Young winner Gerrit Cole before attacking the Yankees bullpen and winning game two 12-3.

Jeff McNeil stays hot

No Met has been swinging a hotter bat after the all-star break than McNeil, which continued in the Bronx. The 32-year-old went four-for-eight against the Yankees, with a home run, two doubles, two RBIs and a walk.

With McNeil’s resurgence and his ability to play the outfield, combined with the impressive play of Jose Iglesias at second base, the Mets may no longer need to look for another outfielder at the deadline.

Alex Young makes the most of his opportunity

The Mets’ bullpen has been its Achilles Heel during the 2024 campaign. To remedy the situation, president of baseball operations David Stearns has gone to great lengths to search for upgrades.

One of Stearns’ recent acquisitions, Alex Young, got called up following the injury to Christian Scott. Young made the most of his opportunity, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings across a pair of appearances with just one hit and two strikeouts.

With the blue and orange needing lefty relief help, the 30-year-old’s performance may have resulted in himself carving a role in the bullpen for the foreseeable future.

Francisco Lindor continues to deliver against the Yankees

Lindor always seems to come up big against the Mets’ interstate rivals, and it was no different in this two-game set. The Puerto Rican native went four-for-10 against the Yankees, with two home runs and six RBIs. Lindor is having another stellar campaign, and if the Mets make the playoffs, he could find himself in the MVP conversation.
