The New York Knicks can still make the playoffs. It all depends on what format Adam Silver will go with for the remaining of the season.
The recent purpose format for the NBA has the Knicks playing a ‘play-in’ round for the final 8th spot. Or that was the original proposal.Â
If the NBA takes a route similar to the NHL, things get interesting. If they advanced the playoffs to twenty-four teams, the Knicks have the 25th best record. But that seems unlikely to happen. Whatever that may be, is it in their best interest?
With the Knicks luck, they’ll win whatever games they need to then get bounces in the first round. They’ll ruin their lottery chances.
That’s where things tricky, will the Knicks want to ruin their lottery position by trying to make the playoffs?
The Knicks never officially said they were tanking for Zion Williamson but we all knew it. That didn’t work out in our favor but still got a great building block in RJ Barrett. This time around there’s really no players like are tank worthy’.
The Knicks need a point guard, obviously, and a shooting guard. Whoever is there will be a good addition to their future plans.
However, trying to make the playoffs in a possible play-in series could ruin all chances at a above-average player.
The best case scenario would be that the NBA just starts the playoffs and there’s no ‘play-in’. That’ll hurt some of the teams who are competing for a playoff spot. But it’ll save the New York Knicks high draft pick.
