The time has finally come.  Undrafted Arizona product, Allonzo Trier, signed a 2 year, 7 million NBA contract to remain with the New York Knicks.  Trier who has quickly became a fan favorite in New York finally inks an real NBA contract.  He was on a 45-day two-way G-league contract after the Knicks signed him as a undrafted free agent.

Trier entered the draft despite testing positve for PED’s while at Arizona.  All 32 teams, including the Knicks, passed on Trier, twice, which gave him a chip on his shoulder coming into this season.  Trier wanted to prove that he has the ability to compete in the NBA and he did just that.

In Trier’s first 27 games, he’s averaging 11.3 points while shooting 47% from the field and 39% from beyond the arc.  Not to mention, he caught every Knick fans eyes the very first game of the season with that monsteorus dunk against the Hawks at the Garden.

The only thing that worries me with this contract is that there’s no third year player option.  That would have made fans a lot happier.  Also, if drafted by the Knicks in the second round, he would be locked up for even more years.  For example, the Knicks have Daymean Dotson locked up for the next 3 years at 2 million.  That sounds nice, but that’s neither here nor there.

Anyway, Trier is a player that can cement his future with the Knicks as long as he continues to produce.  Ron Baker has been waived to make room for Trier.  Trier has been dealing with a right hamstring injury and is expected to be back with the team next week.
