New York Knicks guard Josh Hart is one of the team’s most impactful players. He does the little things that impact winning, such as the rebounding and the additional playmaking that he provides.
Knicks need Josh Hart to be at his best
However, the one thing he is coming up short in is scoring, and more so because of a hesitancy to look to score. Hart has been in the starting lineup for most of the season, but his reluctance to shoot has hurt the Knicks’ offense at times, creating more stagnant possessions that end in bad shots.

Similar to last season, teams have been throwing their centers on Hart at the perimeter, mostly because Hart is not looking to score with the ball in his hands. More often than not, he is looking for a pass to make or a short handoff to a ball handler who can create for themselves.
However, the offense gets clunky as a result of said reluctance. Perhaps the best example would be their game on Tuesday against the Houston Rockets, where the team’s offense sputtered and they got walked down by a desperate Rockets team trying to escape a funk of their own.
Hart needs to space the floor better
Brunson and Hart each had bad nights offensively, and both had bad plus-minuses. Brunson was a -26 and scored only 12 points while Hart was a -22 with 13 points. While Hart technically attempted one more three than Brunson, the process of which those shots came about was poor.

Brunson faced numerous double teams and couldn’t get off clean looks, and Hart was not spacing the floor well enough. Hart has shown the capability to be a knockdown shooter, but for some reason, he isn’t as willing to take shots beyond the arc.
New York needs Hart to present himself as a true threat on offense, or else the playoffs will be a struggle for this group. If Brunson sees endless double teams due to a lack of floor spacing, they may have no choice but to make a change in the starting lineup that subs Hart for a more willing shooter such as Miles McBride or Landry Shamet.
Hart is very important to any success the team wants to have, but they need every bit of him to play at a higher level if they wish to achieve their ultimate goal this year.
