New York Knicks: Projected starting five with Cole Anthony at point guard

Cole Anthony, New York Knicks

Cole Anthony, New York Knicks

The New York Knicks’ most significant problem isn’t management, it’s point guard. Dennis Smith Jr. and Allonzo Trier are not the answer. The Knicks need to draft a stud—someone who can come in on day one and make an impact. In my mind, Cole Anthony could be the missing puzzle piece. Athleticism, vison, and leadership are the three words to describe Cole.

Cole Anthony plays with fire and extreme passion. Sadly, his 2019-20 season was cut short due to a knee injury. In 22 games, Cole averaged 18.5 points per game and shot 38% from the field. The Knicks are in desperate need of a point guard. The NBA Draft is the perfect place to start.

Cole Anthony at Point Guard (PG)

With the addition of Cole, I can see a real change in culture for Knicks basketball. Great basketball player with a great personality. Teammates would love him because he knows the role of a true point guard. Getting the ball to his open teammates. On multiple occasions, Cole set up his teammates at UNC for highlight-reel plays. Overall, if the Knicks are in the position to draft Cole they should. There is no reason to pass up on NBA talent. Don’t sleep on Cole, he’s ready to ball out.

RJ Barrett at Shooting Guard (SG)

There is no mystery to this one, RJ Barrett had a solid rookie season. The Knicks really love RJ and I think he can do big things in year two. This upcoming season, RJ will have a bigger role. Being a team leader and being more vocal are two factors he will continue to grow into. Now, he may not be the key to success but he is a great player. Having RJ and Cole as a backcourt would be intimidating. Both played in the ACC and earned their respect.

Paul Millsap at Small Foward (SF)

The New York Knicks need to dive into the free-agency pool this offseason. Now, Paul Millsap may be old but he could be a great leader for a young Knicks squad. Overall a great player, Paul makes shots from deep and can drive the lane and draw a defender in which will create more opportunities.

Julius Randle at Power Foward (PF)

There’s a lot of hate around Julius Randle but Knicks fans are going to have to deal with it. The Knicks have him locked in for another season. All fans out there know his potential. Hopefully this season we finally see it. With Randle at the four, I could see a lot of mismatches for his defenders. Not only is Randle a force in the paint, but he can also shoot the three-ball. This is going to force bigger defenders outside of their comfort zone.

Mitchell Robinson at Center (C)

This kid can ball, no question about it. If Mitchell Robison can gain some weight this offseason, he will take the league by storm. I really like Mitch at center. His skill set may be more of a power forward but has the height of a center. With his athleticism, he is a mismatch for big centers down low in the post. He can even shoot the ball which makes the defender cover him. I think this year will be Robinson’s breakout season. As long as the Knicks put the proper players around him.

Overall, the New York Knicks need a lot of help. This offseason is very important. It’s time to add some real talent through the draft and free agency. I think this year will be a rebuilding year. Hopefully, I am wrong.
