The New York Knicks have created a new role to add one of Tom Thibodeau’s former point guards, Aaron Brooks, to their coaching staff.
Brooks will serve as the team’s two-way liaison, as first reported by Ian Begley of SNY.
With the G League season still in limbo, Brooks’s role will be crucial to developing and integrating the Knicks’ two-way players Jared Harper and Theo Pinson into Thibodeau’s system. Under the new CBA, two-way players are allowed to play 50 regular-season games.
Brooks played for Thibodeau in Chicago and Minnesota. He also played for Kenny Payne, an assistant coach, during his stay at the University of Oregon. During his 10-year career in the NBA, Leon Rose represented Brooks, which includes stops in Houston, Phoenix, Sacramento, Denver, Chicago, Indiana, and Minnesota.
Brooks, 35, last played with the Illawarra Hawks in Australia, where he suffered a torn Achilles tendon that forced him to retire and transition to a coaching career.
The Knicks have also announced the addition of Darren Erman and Larry Greer to the coaching staff and Reggie Johnson to their scouting department, as previously reported by Empire Sports Media last month.
Following the resignation of the team’s long-time Director of Performance Mubarak Malik, the Knicks have also hired Richard Williams, a strength and conditioning coach. He spent the last three seasons with the Houston Rockets. Before his stint in Houston, Williams was the Los Angeles Clippers’ Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for 13 years. He started his NBA career with the Denver Nuggets, serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for two seasons.
Meanwhile, the Knicks have also beefed up their video scouting department hiring Ike Azotam, Christopher Santo (first reported by The Athletic), and Gabriel Snider as assistant video coordinators. Empire Sports Media first reported Snider’s hiring two days ago.
