With free-agent players and draft prospects the primary focus for the New York Knicks, retaining some of their personnel in the front office might shoot to the top of the list in the coming days. With general manager Scott Perry earning a contract extension after he helped elevate the team this past season, it has been reported that several other members/executives are being poached.

With Perry under contract, it’s worth noting that multiple Western Conference teams have expressed interest in other members of Rose’s front office. The contracts of several members of the organization expire at the end of the month. Once the contracts expire, those members of the basketball operations department will be free to sign with other teams. So Rose and his group have several personnel decisions to make over the next few days.
Based on the team’s elevation last year, retaining all personnel would be advisable if the organization can afford it, which I imagine they can being on the biggest stage in basketball.
They helped the team experience one of the most exciting moments of this COVID-19 riddled year, featuring a playoff series at MSG, something New Yorkers needed. The energy and atmosphere played a significant role in propelling this team into the playoff conversation, and it has been quite some time since Knick fans were able to express enthusiasm regarding the team and its future.
On First Take, Kendrick Perkins detailed his pick for the most electric playoff atmosphere, stating:
“You know what, I gotta go with the New York Knicks. Let’s not forget what we witnessed in the first round (of the playoffs). Let’s not forget that atmosphere in Madison Square Garden when Ice Trae had to silence the crowd.â€
If not for Trae Young and his incredible postseason performance, the Knicks might’ve made a push to the second round, but they will regroup and hopefully add a few quality players to complement the team moving forward this off-season.
“It might not have been 60,000 (fans), it probably was 20,000 that was outside the arena. Madison Square Garden was rocking. It’s great for basketball in general. We heard guys like LeBron James speak on it. We heard guys around the NBA speak on the same that it is great to have New York basketball, the Knicks basketball back. And this is why.â€
If the Knicks can maintain their stature and become a good team, MSG will be one of the more enticing landing spots in the NBA, attracting bonafide stars in the future. That is what the organization desperately needs, and they are finally on their way to accomplish that goal.
