The New York Knicks are expected to be busy this offseason. Their roster could look different than it did this past season, and as Bleacher Report suggests, the Knicks could add veteran depth in the form of Indiana Pacers F Doug McDermott.
Veteran sharpshooter not getting a lot of playing time with the Pacers
After appearing in 46 games for the San Antonio Spurs this season, McDermott has not garnered a lot of playing time with the Pacers, playing just 11.3 minutes per game and averaging 4.2 points. He has essentially been out of the Pacers’ rotation for the entirety of their playoff run, averaging just 5.9 minutes per game while mostly appearing only in garbage time.
Doug McDermott could provide the Knicks with exceptional sharpshooting services
Nonetheless, the 32-year-old is a career 41% shooter from three-point territory and could provide the Knicks with added spacing if the Knicks were to sign the veteran in free agency.
“A reliable movement shooter like Doug McDermott could be a need-filler, then, not to mention a really smart way of filling a roster spot. Get him to New York, and you know what you’re going to get: lights-out long-range shooting and a commitment to his role that will rarely (if ever) allow him to stray outside of his lane,” said Bleacher Report.
McDermott appeared in 55 games for the Knicks in the 2017-2018 season, averaging 7.2 points per game and knocking down 39% of his three-pointers. With the futures of Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks’s Knicks tenures in question, McDermott could fill a role similar to them, largely as a spark-plug shooter off the bench.
