The Jets bolstered their special teams on Saturday, taking record-breaking punter Braden Mann with the No. 191 pick.
With the 191st pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected punter Braden Mann out of Texas A&M.
With Lac Edwards unsigned, and former Pittsburgh camp invitee Ian Berryman the only punter on the roster, the Jets brought in the record-breaker from College Station. Mann was widely believed to be the top punting prospect during in the lead-up to the draft, and he had the hardware to prove. In addition to unanimous All-American honors in his 2018 junior season, Mann took home that year’s Ray Guy Award (given to the nation’s best punter) and also reached the All-SEC team twice.
Mann also broke several records during his time as an Aggie. His average of 50.9 earned last season was the best in NCAA history, as were his 14 punts of at least 60 yards.
The Jets previously selected a Texas A&M punter during the draft proceedings in 1969. That specialist, Steve O’Neal, went on to boot the longest punt in NFL history, a 98-yard history maker against Denver.
Barring future developments, the Jets’ next selection will be their last of the 2020 slate.
