Six months after negotiations fell apart between the two, the New York Jets added former Rams defender Marqui Christian to their roster.

The New York Jets announced on Wednesday that they have agreed to terms with safety Marqui Christian. Formerly of the Los Angeles Rams, the defender has been added to New York’s active roster.

Christian, 25, began his career as a fifth-round pick (167th overall) of the Arizona Cardinals in 2016. Arizona released him in September of his rookie campaign but was signed by the Rams shortly after. The Division II alum of Midwestern State went on to establish a four-year tenure in Los Angeles, earning 83 tackles in that span (12 on special teams).

Previously this offseason, the Jets and Christian were engaged in negotiations but could not agree to a deal back in March. He was signed by the Chicago Bears in August and added to their reserve/suspended list before joining the practice squad on September 21. He had been suspended for the first two games of the 2020 season for unspecified circumstances.

The signing of Christian is one of several moves the Jets have made in the lead-up to their Week 3 matchup in Indianapolis this Sunday (4:05 p.m. ET, CBS). They opted to keep receiver Josh Malone on the active roster and placed cornerback Arthur Maulet (groin) on injured reserve. Malone earned 16 yards on four receptions in last weekend’s 31-13 loss to San Francisco. He also earned 12 yards on an end-around rush in the third quarter and returned two kickoffs for 49 yards. Maulet, injured in the midst of his second season in New York, had one tackle against the 49ers.

The Jets (0-2) also added three to their practice squad, linebackers Bryce Hager and Noah Dawkins, and offensive lineman Blake Hance. Veteran linebacker Paul Worrilow was released from the squad.
