Following the official announcement Sunday that George Fant would be moving back to right tackle for the New York Jets, he commented on the transition Thursday afternoon.

Following Thursday’s practice, Fant was one of the players who met with the media.

Fant had this to say about the move from left tackle to right, “Another hurdle in the road, just something I gotta do. Get back over there and get ready for the season.” He was asked about it further and stated, “I could only control what I could control. To be the best right tackle I can be. Sometimes, you take things head on and go play.”

He elaborated further on his thoughts, “You just gotta be a pro in certain situations. Yeah, you could be upset and be everything else. But at the end of the day, still gotta play football games. Go out there every day just keep working, working on my game. Getting acclimated to the right side. That’s pretty much all I can do.”

Fant speaks on Duane Brown’s impact:

Fant was teammates prior with Duane Brown. On what he adds to the team Fant had this to say, “A lot. A lot of knowledge I think is one of the main things. Honestly, he’s still playing at a high level. He’s a good player. It’s exciting for me because I kind of tell some of the younger guys what he brings to the room and you kind of see it when he comes out here.”

On his relationship with Brown, Fant said, “A lot of respect for Duane. I learned a lot from him. Kept in touch with him even when I was here and he was still out there.”

Lastly, on the adjustment from left to right Fant stated there is “a lot of stuff. It’s not easy to do… It’s one of those situations where you gotta deal with your hand placement, just the way you get off the ball, the pass set. It’s a lot of different things.”

It has been well documented that Fant feels for comfortable at left tackle. Nonetheless, his disposition does not seem to be any sort of a problem. Fant had a career year in 2021 and should only build on that going forward for the Jets.
