New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is feeling like his MVP self ahead of the 2024 NFL season. During a recent interview with Adam Schein on SiriusXM “Mad Dog Sports Radio,” the four-time league MVP let it be known just how confident he is about his game as well as the team’s prospects for this upcoming season (h/t Grant Gordon of NFL.com):
“I’m always confident, you know me, I feel like if I’m on the field and doing what I’m capable of doing, No. 1, we’ve always got a chance,” Rodgers said. “And No. 2, more than that, we’re one of those, you know, half dozen to 10 teams that can actually win a championship this year. So that’s what’s exciting.”
Jets: Rodgers is looking to dominate with his teammates after a disrupted 2023 season
Rodgers has progressed well after tearing his Achilles four plays into Week 1 of the 2023 NFL campaign. He and the Jets were hoping for an end-of-season return in mid-December, but the 2010 Super Bowl champion did not feel as though he was at full strength, neither did the Jets put themselves in position for him to wage a playoff surge given the amount of games they had left on the schedule.
However, as the Jets prepare for 2024, Rodgers has a new array of weapons at his disposal to get the Jets to the playoffs and make good on his evaluation of being one of those six to 10 teams that can win it all.
He’ll have a proven wideout in Mike Williams opposite Garrett Wilson on the outside, a standout slot receiver prospect in screen-pass opportunities in Malachi Corley, a dynamic backfield with Breece Hall, and a strengthened offensive line jolted by No. 11 overall pick Olu Fashanu.
The Jets will have much competition in their division & conference on their road to the Super Bowl
Taking a look at the NFL landscape for next season, three teams lead the pack of championship contenders including the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, and Detroit Lions. After them, the Jets will battle with the Miami Dolphins in their AFC East division after the division champions from last year, the Buffalo Bills, took a backseat this winter when they lost star receiver Stefon Diggs. In the rest of the conference, the Houston Texans look strong behind QB C.J. Stroud and the entire AFC North fields teams that could win it all.
Seeing that the Jets finished 7-10 last year largely on the strength of their defense that is mostly returning in 2024 after they saw three other quarterbacks other than Rodgers start on the season, the healthy and re-tooled Jets team this time around are primed for a playoff berth.
Whether they reach the 14 wins that many analysts project or not, a healthy Rodgers remains a threat to take home league MVP. With strong units on both sides of the football, his confidence will be boosted by the elite talent around him and vice versa.
