The New York Giants elected to place tight end, Evan Engram, on injured reserve Tuesday afternoon among several roster moves. The starting tight end has missed the past few weeks with a mid-foot sprain, and while he was expected to have a 2-4 week timetable for return, Engram was unable to heal correctly over that span.
The pass-catching tight end will finish the year with 467 yards and three scores, his worst statistical totals to date. GM Dave Gettleman may look into trading Engram during the offseason, as rookie Kaden Smith has climbed the depth chart and proven to be a capable pass catcher.
Engram’s inability to stay on the field has hurt his production and, ultimately, the consistency of the offense. With no end in sight regarding his injury issues, it might be best to seek draft capital for his services. Alternatively, he will go into the fourth year of his rookie contract, looking to excel in an attempt to garner a significant extension for the future.
