New York Giants: Janoris Jenkins Good To Go Against Dallas

Going into the second week of the season, the New York Giants won’t have to manage without their top cornerback.

Janoris Jenkins made a surprise exit from practice on Thursday, because of a family problem that wasn’t elaborated on. That problem, however, isn’t going to keep Jenkins from playing against the Dallas Cowboys in this week’s Sunday Night Football game. At least, not if the latest reports offer any indication.

“Everything’s good… I just came back, focused back on football, and just continued to go,” Jenkins said yesterday. “In life, things happen and you just gotta move forward and come back to work and pick up where I left off.”

Before the season started, Jenkins’ brother was charged with manslaughter. While it might be easy to assume that the family problems here are related to that, “a person with knowledge of the situation” told the New York Post that this matter is an unrelated one.

Whatever it actually is, it doesn’t seem like it will keep Jenkins out of the week two game against the Cowboys. That’s a good thing for the Giants in general, but especially for this game because of the rivalry and the words exchanged recently between Landon Collins and the Cowboys passing offense.

The matchup between that passing attack and the Giants secondary will be watched closely by many after Dak Prescott accepted the challenge to do better in this game. Of the members of the secondary, Jenkins is one of the ones that will have the biggest impact in keeping that from happening.

Despite the loss in the first game of the season, Jenkins had a good game and came away with an impressive interception along with five tackles. More importantly, he’s a standout at a position that the Giants are thin at, making it all the more important that he plays on Sunday.

With Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott coming off of a down year compared to his impressive rookie season, Jenkins might just find himself getting another interception on Sunday.
