The New York Giants are preparing to retire former defensive and Michael Strahan’s number 92 jersey. Only a few days after Eli Manning called it quits from the NFL and had his number 10 retired, Strahan will follow closely in his footsteps. While the former defensive star retired several years ago, he has continued with life after football as a News anchor for Fox NFL Sunday and a cohost of ABC’s Good Morning America.
“Yeah, they are,†Strahan confirmed Jimmy Fallon asked if the Giants would be retiring his number. “It’s going to be really emotional.â€
Strahan played for the Giants for 15 seasons and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014. He still holds the NFL record for most sacks in a season with 22.5, recorded in 2001. He finished his career with six double-digit sack seasons, seven Pro Bowl appearances, four First-Team All-Pro awards, and missed only 15 games over the final 14 years of his career. It was only a matter of time before the Giants officially retired his number.

Strahan attended Manning’s retirement last Friday, congratulating him on a lengthy career that included two Super Bowl appearances and two SB MVPs.
“He’s a great guy and I think he deserves everything that’s coming his way,†Strahan said of Manning. “His jersey being retired, hopefully induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, two Super Bowls, two Super Bowl MVPs. I mean the guy is a great, great friend, man, so I’m happy for Eli to retire the way he wanted to.â€
