If healthy, Jabrill Peppers will be a huge factor for the New York Giants’ defense in 2020.

In 2019, Jabrill had three forced fumbles and one interception. Going into 2020, the fan base expects more from him in several categories. I personally think he will have a breakout year. Not to forget, but the Giants get a fresh start in 2020. Also, the Giants really should get Peppers involved more on special teams. Remember what Jabrill did at Michigan — it’s hard to forget.

The 2019 season was a tough one for the New York Giants as we all know. This upcoming season is looking very promising with the new coaching staff and the new draft class. Not to forget, the Giants also added some depth in the secondary to help out guys like Peppers. The first big signing was free agent James Bradberry. As we all know, Bradberry is an old Dave Gettleman draft pick. Adding Bradberry to the Giants’ secondary is relieving for fans. They finally found someone who can cover slot receivers and cover an opponent’s number one pass-catcher. Years past, we have seen opponents in the slot ruin the Giants’ defense game after game.

Jabrill Peppers 2019 Stats

Jabrill only played 11 games in 2019 due to a back injury he suffered against Chicago on November 24th. This was a crushing blow to an already deflated defense. In those 11 games, Peppers had a combined 76 tackles and five tackles for a loss. Also, Peppers had one touchdown and was used as a punter returner a few times. In those 11 games, Jabrill forced three fumbles.

Expectations for 2020

This season is going to be a breakout season for Peppers. With the addition of Alabama safety Xavier McKinney, the Giants’ secondary is starting to improve. Drafting McKinney was a steal. Not only will he be exciting to watch, but he will also give Peppers more opportunities to free-roam. Giving Jabrill a solid pairing gives him endless opportunities to make big-time plays. I think McKinney is going to be a pro-bowler in year one.

With all the new pieces in the secondary, I think Jabrill will excel. I think he will have five interceptions, five forced fumbles, and three sacks to go along with Patrick Graham’s new system. The New York Giants’ safety duo can become one of the best in the NFL. Don’t sleep on Peppers. Hopefully, this duo will be one of the best int he long-term.
