The New York Giants have a talented wide receiver corp that gets more strength added to it in a recent mock trade.
Giants land a talented wide receiver from the Titans in a mock trade
The proposed deal by Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine has the Giants sending a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Tennessee Titans to invest in WR Treylon Burks. Ballentine justified the deal by saying this in part:
“A move to another team, like the New York Giants, which is still trying to figure out the receiving corps, would make sense. Going from [Will] Levis to Daniel Jones might be a downgrade, but the Giants have a lot of unknowns at wide receiver right now,” Ballentine wrote.
“There are many young options the Giants hope will hit big this season. Adding Burks would give them another body type with potential in the room. At 6’2″, 225 pounds, the former Razorback is much bigger than the likes of Wan’Dale Robinson (5’8″, 185) and Jalin Hyatt (6’0″, 185).”
Giants can invest in insurance policy WR Treylon Burks for two unknowns at wideout
The Giants have an elite wide receiver prospect in 2024 No. 6 overall pick Malik Nabers, two promising young pass-catchers in Robinson and Hyatt, and their veteran leading receiver from 2023 Darius Slayton potentially returning next season.
The unknowns alluded to are whether or not Slayton will play for New York in 2024 as he continues to hold out of OTA’s in pursuit of a contract extension, as well as how much of a jump Jalin Hyatt will take in his second season after showing flashes as a rookie.
Burks can help the Giants with his ability to create space in routes
Burks does a few things well. In 2023, he sported a 48 percent route win rate, placing him at No. 41 among all wideouts. His win rate in zone coverage was 61 percent. Secondly, the 24-year-old is able to gain significant yardage, with 13.8 yards per reception last season, which would have ranked No. 3 on the Giants in that department.
It helped him amass 221 REC yards on 16 receptions in 11 games for the Titans. He does leave something to be desired with his 53.3 percent catch percentage, which would have only trailed Sterling Shepard for the worst on the team among the 15 receiving options they fielded last year.
Giants can expend a 2025 fifth-rounder for Burks given their collection of picks
The Giants need dynamism in their aerial attack. If given a healthy amount of targets, Burks could be a great depth option for New York and an insurance policy in case one (or more) of their young talents struggle during the 17-game slate.
New York acquired a second fifth-round pick in 2025 after trading Leonard Williams to the Seattle Seahawks and swapped their sixth-round pick for a seventh-rounder next year in a trade with the Buffalo Bills last season, so they have one extra pick they can use to bring in Burks.
