Giants legend thinks job security claims for GM and head coach are ‘nonsense’

NFL: Preseason-New York Jets at New York Giants

NFL analyst and former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber believes that any rumors surrounding the job security of Giants GM Joe Schoen, and head coach Brian Daboll are unfounded. The Giants legend explained his reasoning during Wednesday’s edition of the WFAN afternoon show.

“This narrative that this is a make-or-break season for Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll is absolute nonsense,” said Barber. “Clearly, they have a plan in place and know exactly what they’re trying to do. Yeah, there’s some twists and turns…but the way they navigated it, it made me feel really good about our organization.”

Latest edition of Hard Knocks shows Giants Owner’s reaction to blockbuster Saquon Barkley signing

The conversation sparked from the latest edition of Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants. In the episode, it was evidently clear that Giants Owner John Mara wanted to keep running back Saquon Barkley, who departed to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency.

Schoen allowed Barkley to enter free agency, running the risk that the team’s best player for the last 6 seasons would depart.

“We’re gonna be fine,” Schoen told Mara in the immediate aftermath of the signing. Mara, clearly surprised by the move, nodded his head and silently walked out of the room.

Barber still has faith in Schoen and Daboll despite a disappointing fall off in 2023

After a successful first season in New York in 2022 which saw the Giants win their first playoff game in a decade, Schoen and Daboll’s Giants took a step back in 2023, finishing just 6-11 while boasting one of the league’s worst offenses.

Despite the fall off, Barber still believes that Schoen and Daboll have the franchise headed in the right direction.

“This solidifies to me that the Giants are in good hands,” said Barber in reference to his initial comments.

Big Blue will aim to prove one of their legends right in 2024. After a disappointing 2023 season, the Giants are optimistic that a turnaround is imminent for a franchise that made the playoffs just one time since 2016.
