Bellator announces return to Paris with Gegard Mousasi – Fabian Edwards and the Lightweight Grand Prix

Bellator MMA has flooded the news the past few days and they aren’t stopping. Two days ago, the promotion announced that they re-signed AJ McKee to a multi-year deal. Then, they announced the participants and start date for the Lightweight Grand Prix.

This morning, Bellator officially announced that they are returning to Paris on May 12th. The event will be headlined by a title eliminator in the middleweight division between former champion Gegard Mousasi (49-8-2) and Fabian Edwards (11-2).

After a four-fight winning streak that saw him recapture and defend the middleweight title, Gegard Mousasi lost his title in a lopsided decision against Johnny Eblen last June. With a potential win over Edwards, he’s hoping to get another crack at the middleweight crown.

After starting out his career a perfect 9-0, Fabian Edwards hit a wall with two straight losses in Bellator. However, he’s bounced back incredibly strong with two straight wins including a first round knockout over former UFC champion Lyoto Machida.

Bellator Paris and Lightweight Grand Prix

Sidney Outlaw (16-5) and Mansour Barnaoui (20-4) will compete in the co-main event in a Lightweight Grand Prix quarterfinal matchup. With the news yesterday regarding Bellator 292, we now know all four matchups for the quarterfinal round.

Former featherweight champion AJ McKee (20-1) will be taking on former lightweight champion Patricky Pitbull (24-11). Worth noting that there is not a confirmed date for this fight. Considering the March date for the first two matchups and May for this one, I’d look out for April.
