The New York Mets’ links and rumors are already here, including blurbs about Steven Matz, Yoenis Cespedes, JD Davis, the bullpen, and more.

Here are the New York Mets’ rumors of the day:

Michael Baron: It is not a secret by now that the New York Mets have five spots in the rotation for six pitchers. In reality, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and  Marcus Stroman will be in. That leaves two spots for Steven Matz and free agent signings Rick Porcello and Michael Wacha.

Baron thinks that Matz “is in the rotation at this point. Even if he really struggles during camp, I still don’t see a demotion to the bullpen unless those struggles continue into the regular season.”

Anthony DiComo: A friendly reminder that today, the Mets‘ winter blood drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Citi Field. People that donate blood will receive two tickets to a select Mets 2020 home game, just not for Opening Day.

Michael Baron: The Chicago White Sox are focused on getting back to respectability. They have had a good offseason and now, they signed reliever Steve Cishek.

He said that Cishek would have made sense for the Mets, but they are “pretty well covered on the right side of the bullpen, so Cishek shouldn’t have been a top priority for them. I still believe they need to explore adding another quality left-handed reliever. We shall see if that occurs.”

New York Daily News: Deesha Thosar reviews JD Davis’ contributions to the Mets in 2019. Not only that, but she also points out that he will be one to watch in 2020.

Davis is part of a team culture that embraced a fun-loving nature. Team chemistry is evident in the Mets.

The boar is still making headlines

Beyond the Box Score: Yoenis Cespedes’ incident with the wild boar is still making headlines. In Beyond the Box Score, Sheryl Ring examines how Brodie Van Wagenen used the contract he negotiated with the Cuban star to stop paying him after the incident resulted in long-term injuries.

New York Daily News: Bradford William Davis examines how the Washington Nationals and the New York Mets are using different approaches to solve their bullpen woes. The champions are opening up the check book, and the Mets signed one big name (Dellin Betances) and are hoping for turnarounds from Jeurys Familia and Edwin Diaz.
