Welcome 2020! The New Year is here and baseball is getting closer. Thankfully, there are always New York Mets’ links, rumors and news to cover, even in the slowest of days!
Today, the Mets will introduce their most recent signing. Dellin Betances, the former Yankees reliever, will say his first words as a Met.
The offseason isn’t over yet, as there are still important dates to expect. Teams need to exchange arbitration figures with eligible players within the next eight days, and starting next month, people will start reporting to Spring Training.
Here are the New York Mets’ news and rumors of the day:
Andy Martino: Dellin Betances, the star reliever the Mets signed on Christmas Eve, will have his welcome party today. Yes, the team will unveil its newest bullpen weapon at 11:00 am ET to the press and fans.
Betances will solidify an already strong bullpen. He signed a one-year deal with a player option for 2021. In the span from 2014 to 2018, he led the Majors’ relievers in strikeouts and posted a shiny 2.22 ERA.
MLB.com: Anthony DiComo made a compilation about the key dates remaining in the Mets’ offseason. He also detailed some of the biggest questions left to answer. In most cases, only time will tell.
For now, the Mets will have to exchange arbitration figures with their ten eligible players by January 10. Other questions remain, though? Will there be any contract extensions before the season starts? How about the Yoenis Cespedes’ health watch?
Dallas Morning News: The Texas Rangers reportedly want Nolan Arenado. However, if a deal doesn’t come to fruition, they are allegedly looking at other options, cheaper ones.
According to the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers are talking with Todd Frazier as potential hedge while they wait on Arenado. Frazier last played with the New York Mets.
