The last couple of days have been very stressful for the New York Mets. Even the fans of the team are currently awaiting the resolution they are going to take regarding Carlos Beltran.

Beltran, appointed as the team’s skipper over the winter, participated in the Houston Astros’ 2017 sign-stealing scandal. He was a player back then, and MLB decided against punishing the on-field authors. The Astros fired the manager AJ Hinch and the GM Jeff Lunhow, and the Boston Red Sox did the same with Alex Cora (he was with Houston as a bench coach in 2017.)

A current Mets’ employee called out Mike Fiers, a pitcher that was with Houston in 2017, for leaking the scandal. It is unclear if the Queens’ squad will retain Beltran or let him go.

Here are the New York Mets’ rumors and news of the day:

Golic and Wingo: Jessica Mendoza, a Mets’ employee, called out Mike Fiers via Twitter. The former Astros pitcher was the one who alerted the baseball community about the sign-stealing scheme that Houston used in their World Series-winning 2017 season.

Mendoza is a special assistant to Brodie Van Wagenen, the New York Mets’ general manager. During her intervention, she said about Fiers: “to go public with it and call them out and start all of this, it’s hard to swallow.”

Mendoza is working the team since 2019, specifically focusing on baseball operations but also working with ESPN in Sunday Night Baseball.

MLB Pipeline: Mets’ catching prospect Francisco Alvarez is getting all the headlines. MLB Pipeline ranked him as the fifth best catching prospect in all baseball, a testament of his considerable ability behind the plate and at the dish.

He is only 18 years old, yet his hit tool is being compared with that of Adley Rutschman, the first overall pick in the 2019 draft. He got a very large bonus from the Mets, and responded by hitting .312/.407/.510 with 10 doubles, seven homers, and 26 RBI in 42 games in two levels.

Anthony DiComo: Despite the rumors surrounding the Carlos Beltran situation, Mike Piazza had his day. The New York Mets have officially renamed their spring training street address in Port St. Lucie to 31 Piazza Drive.

Piazza is among the very best players to ever put on a Mets’ jersey. Now, he is being honored for his contributions to the club.
