The New Year is quickly approaching, and the New York Mets continue to make headlines around the web. Fun rankings, rumors about the roster construction, and Marcus Stroman’s role for 2020 are among today’s subjects.

Here are the New York Mets’ links of the day:

MetsMerizedonline.com: Michael Mayer wrote about the state of the New York Mets’ projected 26-man roster with an eye in 2020. He says the team should add a veteran catcher, another bullpen arm on a Major League deal, and maybe a bench piece for depth purposes.

He observes that the bullpen’s upside is huge, but it isn’t without risks. Signing a reliever like Will Harris or Steve Cishek would provide another boost. The rotation and lineup look set as things stand now, as does the bench.

MLB.com: Acquiring a prospect, developing him, and seeing him realize his potential has to be satisfactory. In fact, given how the game is currently constructed, every club needs the farm to feed from talent.

The MLB.com official site ran an interesting story about each team’s biggest prospect success story of the decade. For the Mets, it is pretty clear who that players is: Jacob deGrom.

The writeup notes that “before becoming perhaps the best pitcher in baseball, deGrom was a ninth-round pick in the 2010 Draft out of Stetson University, where he’d spent three years as a two-way player. The Mets moved him to the mound full time in pro ball, and after losing a season to Tommy John surgery, deGrom returned to action and steadily evolved into a true ace.”

New York Daily News: Deesha Thosar observes that Marcus Stroman, who was acquired by the Mets in July, will be crucial to the team success in 2020. While he struggled to the tune of a 5.05 ERA in his first seven games in New York, he righted the ship. Over his last four games, he had a 1.88 ERA. As a rotation stabilizer and a “bridge” between the top and the back of the rotation, he will be instrumental.

MLB.com: Ranking the Mets’ top home runs of the decade is not an easy task. The one David Wright hit in the 2015 World Series against Yordano Ventura stands out, though. The list is quite interesting, go take a look.
