New York Mets preach patience and say they are in “communication” with MLB about plans

The COVID-19, or the coronavirus as it is also called, is currently spreading with ease over the world, as people travel. It is, sadly, very easy to get infected with the disease, and that’s why governments are adopting public health measures to protect citizens around the planet. MLB decided to push back the beginning of the season two weeks and cancel the remaining spring training games. Thus, the New York Mets are directly affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

In fact, several top flight leagues around the United States and the world have decided to stop operations until further notice. Among them are the NBA, the NHL, the MLS, the NCAA March Madness and even the World Cup Qualifiers. The Masters’ golf tournament was also postponed, as were various European soccer top circuits.

Other sporting events that are scheduled for the next few weeks and months are at risk of being pushed back or even suspended.

The Mets’ statement

The New York Mets, knowing that there is still a lot of panic and misinformation about many topics out there, released a short note on the coronavirus matter.

“Yesterday, Major League Baseball announced that the start of the 2020 regular season will be delayed by at least two weeks due to the national emergency created by the coronavirus pandemic,” the statement started.

“We are in communication with MLB and we will provide more information about our plans, including our ticket policy for impacted games, as soon as it is available.”

“We appreciate your patience as we work through these unprecedented times. As the health and safety of our entire Mets family of players, employees and fans is of the utmost importance,” the note ended.

In a separate tweet from the Mets’ official account, the team wrote: “Baseball will wait. Everyone be safe,” which is pretty much the overall sentiment here at Empire Sports Media.
