The Seattle Mariners are looking to improve their offense ahead of the 2025 campaign. They have tried long and hard to lure some of the top position players in free agency and were linked to some sluggers in the trade market, like Josh Naylor. They have an incredibly good and deep pool of pitchers, but with that offense, they will likely struggle to keep up with the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros.
At the moment, they are probably looking at starting Ryan Bliss at second base. That’s why they were linked to Hyeseong Kim before he signed to play in LA and are interested in Ha-Seong Kim, too.
The Mariners could be in on Gavin Lux
On Monday, another rumor began to gain momentum. Since there is an overpopulation of infielders in the Dodgers, the Mariners have reportedly asked them about the availability of Gavin Lux:
“The Mariners have checked with the Dodgers about the availability of Gavin Lux, as we discussed on @MLBNetwork this morning. The Dodgers have 6 middle infielders on their 40-man roster: Edman, Betts, Lux, Kim, Taylor, Rojas,” MLB insider Jon Morosi posted on X.
The Mariners lineup would look so much better with Lux
Lux is a 27-year-old lefty hitter who could make the Mariners lineup much better than it currently is. He is a former top prospect who started to round into form as the year went on: he finished with a 100 wRC+, but posted a 152 mark after the All-Star break.
Considering his first half wRC+ was a meager 60, he came a long way after the break. Maybe he felt more comfortable at the plate as he became further removed from his ACL surgery in 2023, but he became a serious offensive threat in the second half of 2024.
Lux is also being pursued by the Yankees or was until very recently, so the Mariners could have some competition. Still, if Seattle decides to make a move, they have the means to pull it off.
