Manchester City have had rumors circulating all offseason regarding many of their top stars leaving despite having another successful campaign last season, which featured their fourth straight Premier League title.

With the Copa America and the European Championships now concluded, some of soccer’s biggest clubs and stars are set to make moves and decisions, with the next club season becoming their primary focus.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that one of the Citizens’ star young forwards had decided his future with the club.

According to a report by Manchester City insider Tolmie’s Hairdoo on X, Julián Álvarez could be set to leave Manchester City this summer. The 23-year-old forward turned down a four-year extension and is reportedly seeking a move to a new European club.

Álvarez is under contract until 2028 with Pep Guardiola’s squad, with the extension only set to improve the terms of the current agreement in exchange for another year of club control.

Despite frequently coming off the bench, the Argentinian native played a vital role in the Citizens’ success last season, scoring 19 goals and registering 13 assists across 53 appearances.

With Erling Haaland secured as the club’s star forward, the 2022 World Cup champion is looking for more consistent playing time and the ability to be the primary option.

Where could Álvarez go, and for how much?

Reports indicate that many of the top clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, are interested in the 23-year-old, but a move to La Liga is most likely the best option.

The Spanish top flight has a pair of interested suitors in the nation’s capital, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. However, out of the pair, Atletico is said to have the advantage due to providing Álvarez with a lot of what he desires in terms of role, club size, and lifestyle.

For the blue and white, the number that they seem to be seeking to part with Álvarez is £80m ($103.74 million). The transfer fee would most likely go to finding a replacement for the 23-year-old and potentially on another star midfielder.
