Coming off an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title, Manchester City had been fairly quiet during the summer transfer window. On Thursday, that changed as the blue and white signed a 20-year-old winger for a hefty fee.
Manchester City signs Savinho from Troyes
According to BBC, Manchester City has signed Brazilian winger Savinho from Ligue 2 side Troyes for £30 million ($38.2 million).
The 20-year-old spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan with La Liga side Girona, where he made 41 appearances, scored 11 goals, and registered 10 assists while leading the Catalonia club to the Champions League for the first time in club history.
“I’m excited about the chance to work under Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest coaches ever, and someone I know will help me improve even more,” Savinho said via a press release on the club’s website.“I had an amazing time in Spain, and I’m looking forward to a new challenge of playing in the Premier League and alongside some of the best players in the world. I can’t wait to meet the fans and my new teammates and hopefully be a part of bringing more success to City.”
Savinho will be under contract with the blue and white until 2029.

What does this mean for Manchester City?
With the acquisition of Savinho, the blue and white now have another impactful young player who can contribute immediately. The Brazilian international proved with Girona that he is ready to play in a top league against a top club.
What is interesting is what sort of trickle-down this move could have on the rest of the roster. Jack Grealish has been long rumored to be on his way out of the Etihad and fell out of the starting 11 by the season’s end.
Could Savinho end up being a potential replacement for Grealish? After signing him for £100 million ($129.4 million) three summers ago, the blue and white could transfer the English international out. Or perhaps the Citizens feel Savinho could replace Julián Álvarez, who is reportedly set to leave this summer.
Time will tell, but for now, Savinho is just another exciting young forward for soccer’s latest dynasty.
