Breaking down the BOTTOM 10 quarterbacks in the NFL as the 2024 season is set to begin in two weeks. Make sure to drop your thoughts and opinions in the comment section!
No. 10: Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks know what they’re getting with Geno Smith under center. They are never getting elite quarterback play out of him, but they’re also never getting league-worst quarterback play. Smith has moments of brilliance and is a consistently good player. The Seahawks would ideally take a swing for the fences and find a young quarterback with elite potential next offseason, however, they can still feel confident that they will win a decent amount of games with Smith throwing the ball this season.
No. 9: Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts
Anthony Richardson is entering the second season of his career, however, it feels like he’s getting a second chance at a rookie campaign. Richardson played in only four games for the Indianapolis Colts last season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Richardson has star potential and has shown flashes of elite quarterback play. But he needs to do a better job of protecting himself and staying healthy this season.
No. 8: Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints are running it back with Derek Carr in 2024 but he could wind up being benched mid-season for rookie QB Spencer Rattler. The fifth-round draft pick has impressed this summer and could steal the starting job from Carr during the season. Carr threw 25 touchdowns last season with only eight interceptions in 17 starts. While he is still a decent quarterback, Carr’s ceiling is limited, which could cause New Orleans to move in a new direction this year.
No. 7: Russell Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers
Future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson has had a severe fall from grace ever since he was traded to the Denver Broncos in 2022. The former nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback is now among the worst starters in the league at his position. The Broncos cut Wilson in the offseason, despite his relatively impressive production last season as he threw 26 touchdown passes to eight interceptions in 15 games. Wilson has a chance to bounce back with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the outlook is not positive following an underwhelming summer of practices.
No. 6: Daniel Jones, New York Giants
The New York Giants are entering year six of the Daniel Jones experience despite trying to trade up and draft his replacement this offseason. Jones is one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL but has yet to live up to the expectations of his contract. Last season was a nightmare for Jones. He threw only two touchdown passes to six interceptions in six starts before having his season cut short by a torn ACL. It’s a make-or-break year for Danny Dimes as he attempts to bounce back from a devastating knee injury.
No. 5: Will Levis, Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans drafted Will Levis in the second round of last year’s draft. He took over as the starter midway through his rookie season and flashed potential, but also struggled to maintain consistency. He threw eight touchdown passes to four interceptions in nine starts as a rookie. Levis will need to generate more consistent passing production if he wants to establish himself as the Titans’ franchise quarterback.
No. 4: Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers
Bryce Young is the Carolina Panthers’ quarterback of the future, but how will he be as their quarterback of the present? Last year’s No. 1 overall draft pick struggled mightily as a rookie, throwing for just 11 touchdowns with 10 interceptions in 16 starts. The Panthers are praying that Young has a breakout in his upcoming second season.
No. 3: Gardner Minshew, Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders failed to find their next franchise quarterback this offseason and are rolling with veteran and career backup Gardner Minshew. While Minshew is a solid quarterback, his ceiling is limited. He hasn’t thrown for over 15 touchdowns in a season since 2020. The Raiders could end up rolling with youngster Aidan O’Connell at some point this season if Minshew’s production slides.
No. 2: Jacoby Brissett, New England Patriots
Jacoby Brissett has been a career backup but is in line to open the season as the New England Patriots’ starting quarterback. But for how long will Brissett be the starter is the question. They drafted Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s draft and will be eager to insert him into the starting lineup as soon as possible. Brissett will begin the year as the starter, but likely won’t play well enough to keep Maye off the field
No. 1: Sam Darnold, Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings suffered a blow this preseason when rookie first-round quarterback J.J. McCarthy underwent season-ending knee surgery. Veteran signal-caller Sam Darnold is now in line to start for the Vikings. The former first-round pick of the New York Jets is one of the biggest draft busts in Gang Green’s franchise history. Darnold will try to turn his career around in Minnesota, but the outlook for the Vikings’ quarterback situation this season is far from positive.
