Chelsea FC is in the process of signing Brazilian wunderkind Estevão Willian from Palmeiras in Brazil. The signing is for a €40m fixed fee to start, €20m easy add-ons, and €5m difficult extra add-ons. Estevão will sign a contract that is valid through the 2032 season and his initial medical tests are already completed, all of this is according to Fabrizio Romano who had the news first with one of his iconic “here we go” posts.
Where will Estevão fit in with Chelsea?
Estevão Willian is one of the best young talents in the world. He’s a left-footed right winger (yes, another one) who can play through the middle as well, but is seen more as a true right winger. He can hold width with his good pace and beat men 1v1 with his incredible technicality on the ball.
What’s funny is that he is pretty similar to Michael Olise as a player, who Chelsea is currently in the lead in the race to get his signature. Willian is seventeen years old, just like Ecuadorian wunderkind Kendry Paez who Chelsea has also signed.
He again is a left-footed right winger but Paez is seen way more as a traditional 10 or attacking-midfield player and will not be railroaded by the Estevão signing. Since both Paez and Estevão are under eighteen and international signings they cannot join up with the club until January 2025 when they will both be eighteen.
There will be no loans for either of the two according to multiple online reports, but Romano confirms among others that they will be going straight into the first team and will try to make an immediate impact next season. With Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Christopher Nkunku, Angelo Gabriel, and potentially Michael Olise in the fold, it will be interesting, to say the least, to see what Enzo Maresca does with all of these players at his disposal.
