With new manager Enzo Maresca being reportedly appointed as the next manager of Chelsea FC, one of the first things on the agenda is a new goalkeeper.

Maresca wants a goalkeeper to be able to play as a center-back deep in possession in his system. This requires being able to play the ball with high level with their feet — almost being another outfield player when having the ball. Filip Jørgensen, the twenty-two year old Danish international, has been contacted by Chelsea representatives per Nizaar Kinsella of BBC Sport.

Who is Filip Jørgensen?

Jørgensen was the first choice goalkeeper for La Liga side Villareal this past season appearing in thirty-six La Liga games. He has come through the Villareal youth academy breaking through to the first team in January of 2023. The young keeper is sought after for his advanced ball playing skills — making him one to fit the new modern style of football firstimplement by Pep Guardiola.

Should Chelsea fans be excited about potentially signing Jørgensen?

The prospect of signing Jørgensen is one that should excite many if not all Chelsea fans out there. He is exactly what the new manager wants, and backing the new manager should be at the to priority of the club. Maresca is not going to be a manager who demands many players, so if they can get him the type of goalkeeper that he needs for his system to flourish then it should happen.

Not to mention the horrendous mistakes that happened with the ball playing of new signing Robert Sanchez this season which lead to dropped points on numerous occaisons including in the London derby against Arsenal.
