The next time the New York Yankees play could be in 2021

With the United States in turmoil over the coronavirus pandemic, the New York Yankees and Major League Baseball have been waiting idly by for the eventual start of the regular season. Countries across the planet, including our neighbors in the North, Canada, have banned all public gatherings until Mid-Summer if not fall.

Germany has essentially closed everything down until the fall, and with America still waiting on the peak of the pandemic to strike, the likelihood of any professional sporting events take place for at least another two months is unlikely.

President Trump hosted a call on Saturday with sporting commissioners to ask for charitable donations to fight the virus and expedite the healing process of the country. According to ESPN, the hope is to get fans back into stadiums around August/September, which could very well push the start of the regular season for baseball into 2021, essentially skipping an entire year.

Trump also believes that the NFL season should start in the fall, but it could feature no fans in the stadiums, a probability.

What are the New York Yankees up to in the meantime?

Aside from quarantining in their respective homes, Yankees players are informally working out and preparing for the eventual start of the season, which is becoming more unlikely with every passing day. The thought of baseball returning in the fall for what could be the shortest regular season in the history of the league is quite saddening.

Newsday interviewed Zack Britton — he suggested a way for the season to go on in 2020:

“Honestly, I think we could possibly need to find a neutral site for a little while because New York has been such a hotbed for this,” Britton said Thursday on SiriusXM’s MLB Network Radio. “And guys are open to that. I know there are sites they’ve already discussed. I’m not sure if I should even say that publicly, but I know that there’s four sites or four or five sites that are going to have to be added.”
