The coronavirus pandemic has ballooned into far more than anyone imagined, and we are just beginning to see the peak effects of the virus on society and the economy. New York has been the epicenter of infections in the United States, leaving many without work/income and struggling to survive. Hospitals are being overrun with newly admitted patients containing the COVID-19 virus. Healthcare workers have resorted to wearing New York Yankees rain ponchos as protective equipment as they are running low on supplies.
This reality is grim and details the inadequate handling of the pandemic from a supplies perspective. Governor Cuomo stated that the healthcare system would likely be overrun, and the state doesn’t have enough Intensive Care Units to sustain the prolonged pandemic.
Where do the New York Yankees fit into all of this?

The picture above details the unacceptable conditions of hospitals in New York State, and a Yankees poncho being used for protective gear only shows how ill-prepared we were for the coronavirus.
Back to the New York Yankees:
Aside from the asinine usage of the rain poncho above, the actual Yankees have returned to their families and are waiting out the pandemic like the rest of society. Social distancing and safety precautions are all being carried out, including informal workouts. Coaches have built a Google Sheet workout regimen to use, but players are responsible for their own discipline.
New pitching coach Matt Blake expressed the reality they’re facing — nobody has ever gone through something like this before, and it’s all essentially being winged. With the MLB shutting down operations for the foreseeable future, there’s little optimism to believe the season could start anytime soon or at all in 2020. Canada has already banned all public gatherings until June 30, and with MLB teams residing up North, the season is very much in jeopardy.
