The New York Yankees managed to steal two wins against the New York Mets on Sunday in a doubleheader. The Yankees started two young pitchers in Michael King and Deivi Garcia, both having good outings. In game one, Aaron Hicks hit a game-tying two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Urshela drove in the winning run on a single int he 8th.
The Yankees scratched and clawed their way to a victory in the first game, and simply needed their catcher Gary Sanchez to step up and take them home in the second.
With one out in extra innings, Sanchez launched a grand slam to give the Yankees a 5-1 lead. This is a huge victory for the Bombers, who have struggled with all of their injuries.

Good news and bad news for the New York Yankees:
GOOD NEWS:
The good news boils down to two players. Starting pitcher Deivi Garcia lasted six innings, allowing four hits and just one run (not earned). He struck out six batters over 75 pitches, with 51 strikes. His MLB debut was phenomenal, walking out with a 0.00 ERA.
Garcia has been working at the alternate site for several weeks, and while some might have thought it was too early to bring them up to a major league game, he proved that he is more than capable. Touching 94 mph with his fastball and tossing a dangerous curve, he walked away with a well-deserved win.
Slugger Gary Sanchez, who entered the game hitting .125, launched a grand slam to win game two. This was a major development for Sanchez who has been on a deathly cold streak. Hopefully, the snaps him back into place and allows him to build off some positive momentum.
BAD NEWS:
The bad news ultimately boils down to the offense once again. Despite Sanchez’s late-game heroics, the offense wasn’t able to get anything going until extra innings. They scored one run, which severely limited their confidence. Deivi Garcia was forced to wait out the game in angst while his team eventually secured the win. Luke Voit had a tough outing in game two, striking out twice. Mike Tauchman also struck out twice but managed to secure two walks which allowed him to score a run.
Luckily for the New York Yankees, Garcia was able to last six innings, which is close to the entire game in a modern-day doubleheader setting. This allowed them to avoid dipping into their bullpen, which has been extremely disheartening as of late. The expectation is that general manager Brian Cashman will seek assistance on the trade market. The Yankees have until 4 PM tomorrow to execute a deal and help their team return to elite status.
