The New York Yankees put one over on the Boston Redsox on Friday afternoon, securing what one scout labeled a “super athlete.”

The Redsox have made their approach to winning baseball known: players that can get on base and run the bases well. In the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft on Thursday, the Bombers were able to secure outfielder Tyler Hill. They paid cash considerations to add the speedster to the organization, something the Yanks haven’t had alot if in recent years

Here’s what a scout had to say about Tyler Hill:

“Has speed, puts the ball in play, and has the ability to draw a walk,’’ noted one scout.

The under-the-radar Hill could be a solid reserve guy in case a player like Brett Gardner goes down.

:

The 22-year-old Hill hit .254/.348/.312 (108-for-426) with 67 runs, 20 doubles, one triple, one home run, 38 RBIs and 54 walks in 124 games with the Single-A Salem in 2018. Additionally, he stole 27 bases, which is exactly why the Redsox were so keen on keeping him around.

He could offer immense value as a pinch-hitter or walk connoisseur in the future. Getting him on base would be the goal, Hill will do the rest.

Although the young speedster lacks pop, he could be the x-factor if given the opportunity.
