Jake Cave was designated for assignment when the New York Yankees signed Neil Walker. Today the Yankees have shipped Cave to the Twins in exchange for 19-year-old pitcher Luis Gil.
The Yankees today announced that they have acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Luis Gil from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for outfielder Jake Cave.

Who is Gil?
The young pitcher is only 19 and is from the Dominican Republic. Born in Azua, Gil signed with the Twins in 2015. Gil has only seen time in the Dominican Summer League for the Twins. He played in the league in 2015 and 2017.
Gil’s Numbers in 2017:
0 W, 2 L, 2.59 ERA, 49 K, 20 BB
Gil is a young guy who Cashman has acquired as a player that has the potential to become a solid pitcher. Cave was on the bottom of the Yankees depth chart in their crowded outfield, so acquiring this young arm for him is a smart move.
