The Sanchise is a perfect word to describe the New York Yankees All-Star catcher. Gary Sanchez is a hitting machine that had a fantastic 2017 in pinstripes. Sanchez missed a month in the beginning of the season due to a strained right bicep. Although he missed a month, Sanchez posted fantastic numbers.
Sanchez’ numbers :
.278 AVG, 33 HR, 90 RBI, .345 OBP, .531 as per MLB.com
Sanchez is an elite offensive catcher and is a solid defender. He has a cannon for an arm and can consistently throw runners out. The main concern with him is his blocking ability behind the plate.
Last season, he had a lot of trouble keeping balls in the dirt in front of him which allowed many runners to advance. Sanchez has spent a lot of work in the off-season correcting his blocking ability. Through the spring so far, the developing catcher has looked fantastic blocking balls. The off-season work is already paying off.
Sanchez won a sliver slugger last season, according to MLB.com. The rate at which he’s is playing expect to see many more silver slugger awards won by Sanchez.
In his second full season in pinstripes, the big bat should steadily improve into becoming the best offensive catcher in the game. At the rate that Sanchez is going, he has the potential to become one of the greatest offensive catchers of all-time, although that’s quite optimistic.
Sanchez will have the luxury of batting in a lineup with tremendous talent; Aaron Judge and Giancarolo Stanton. This season should be a special one in the Bronx, and Sanchez should be at the forefront of the Yankees’ success going forward.
